TORP Developing New Coalbed Methane Manual
The Tertiary Oil Recovery Project (TORP) at the University
of Kansas is currently in the process of compiling a coalbed
methane manual for those interested in this new industry. The
manual will be written in terms which will be easily understood
by a novice, as well as containing more rigorous examinations
of various aspects of the subject. The book is being authored
by Dwayne McCune, a Kansas consulting petroleum engineer and
associate of TORP, PTTC and the University.
Primary focus of the publication will be on drilling, completion
and operational matters with emphasis on the Midcontinent fields.
Other chapters will discuss well testing, coal characteristics,
reserve determinations, environmental and regulatory concerns
and exploratory concepts. The manual is scheduled for completion
the last quarter of 2000 and will be available for purchase shortly
thereafter.
Workshop Summary
Online Access and Mapping with Kansas Digital
Petroleum Information May 25, 2000
In cooperation with the Kansas Geological Society a 4-hour
workshop was held May 25th at Wichita State University Downtown
Campus. The workshop concentrated on instruction and real-time
demonstration of the query and download capabilities of the databases
containing the master list of oil and gas wells. This new database
is a combination of all well listings available to the Kansas
Geological Survey through the Kansas Corporation Commission.
In addition to displaying results to the screen, this system
allows you to save lists of wells to a file that can be easily
loaded into a spreadsheet or mapping package. The data is updated
on a continuous basis and contains information on over 400,000
wells.
The workshop was well attended with 31 people that signed
the registration. The group consisted primarily of geoscience
personnel that were either consultants or associated with independent
operators in Wichita, Kansas. The format and content of the workshop
met with a favorable response. Additional technical workshops
were requested to cover log evaluation and computer mapping techniques.
Plans are to place the presentation on the North Midcontinent
PTTC website. |
