Advantages
- P&T has been one of the most widely used remediation technologies since the early 1980s and its application and limitations are well understood.
- With this technology plume movement and expansion are actively controlled in contrast to the lack of control exercised in the passive approach taken in the permeable reactive barrier (PRB) or in situ redox manipulation (ISRM) technologies.
- P&T does not require trench excavation such as would be the case for a PRB.
- There is no limitation on the maximum depth of the treatment zone as there would be with a PRB.
- Human-health concerns arising from the handling of hazardous chemicals are fewer with this technology than the concerns associated with the ISRM technology.
