TORP Coalbed Methane Manual Going to Press
A manual for coalbed methane operators, Fundamentals of Coalbed
Methane Production, has been developed by the Tertiary Oil Recovery
Project (TORP) at the University of Kansas and will soon be going
to press and should be available later this year.
The manual, which is written primarily for the operators in
the Midcontinent, covers operational, geological and engineering
aspects of coalbed gas production. An effort was made to provide
examples and case histories from Kansas and Oklahoma when possible.
Subjects include; developing the prospect, properties of coal,
characteristics of natural gas in coal, plus detailed sections
on reservoir engineering, and drilling, completing and equipping
coalbed methane wells.
The objective of the manual is to provide the operator with
a single reference source for operational matters relating to
coalbed production. The manual discusses collecting and utilizing
data such as canister tests, well log analysis, isotherms, production
curves, etc. Although it is necessary to include some engineering
applications, an effort was made to keep the report as user-friendly
and practical as possible.
The public will be informed of the cost of the manual and
ordering instructions via PTTC newsletters, workshops, and internet
sites once that information is available. |
