Barnett Wins Prestigious IOR Pioneer Award
Bob Barnett, Operations Manager
for Phoenix Kansas Energy, LLC of Chanute Kansas was awarded
the "IOR Pioneer Award" by the Society of Petroleum
Engineers at their Improved Oil Recovery Symposium in Tulsa on
April 3.
The "IOR Pioneer Award" is presented biannually
at the Symposium to honor individuals who have contributed significantly
over the years to improving the recovery of oil. Since 1984,
the first year the award was presented, the list of recipients
reads like a Hall of Fame of petroleum engineers.
Barnett received his petroleum engineering degree from Texas
Tech University in the mid-50s. He began his career on the Gulf
Coast working for Texaco, then the Brazos O&G Division of
Dow Chemical Company. Since 1970, Bob has been with James E.
Russell Petroleum, Inc. (now Phoenix Kansas Energy, LLC) in Chanute.
Bob pioneered the installation and operation of the first field-scale
test in the United States of the polymer flooding process in
the Vernon Field Woodson County, Kansas. His work contributed
to the understanding of polymer behavior in field conditions
and was instrumental in the development of many mixing and handling
systems used by industry. He has been key in the evolution of
measuring methods, techniques and equipment, providing data and
feedback that guided early research and development efforts.
Bob, a member of the North Midcontinent Region of PTTC's Producers
Advisory Group, is a registered Professional Engineer in Texas.
He has been active in several technical organizations, such
as the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Tertiary Oil Recovery
Project (TORP), through out his career.
On behalf of those in the industry in the Midcontinent region,
the fellow members of PTTC's Producers Advisory Group and the
staff at PTTC, we wish to express our congratulations to Bob. |
