Pump and Treat using the Forager™ Sponge (P&T)

General Description of the Technology

In Plume Busters pump and treat (P&T) uses a production well to withdraw contaminated ground water from the aquifer and an injection well to drive the contaminated ground water to the production well. When both wells are in operation, they create an oval-shaped capture zone in which all of the water contained within its boundaries is drawn to the production well with the assistance of the injection well. For more information review the EPA document on this technology.

Above ground, the water treatment plant recieves contaminated water from the production well. The contaminated water is passed through a series of columns or beds filled Forager™ Sponges or granules to remove heavy metals (including chromium). The treated water is returned to the aquifer by means of injection wells. For more information review the material provided on the company's website and the Oak Ridge report.
