Why use seismic coherence?

  • Excellent tool for delineating geological boundaries (faults, lateral stratigraphic contacts, etc.)
  • Allows accelerated evaluation of large data sets
  • Provides quantitative estimate of fault/fracture presence
  • Often enhances stratigraphic information that is otherwise difficult to extract
