Characterization of Mississippian Osage Chat in South-Central Kansas

Mississippian stratigraphic nomenclature used in Kansas (Maples, 1994). Cowley Formation accumulated on shelf margin as an interval equivalent to succession of formations deposited on shelf in extending from Kinderhook into the Meramec Stage. Chat formed from cherty facies of these strata, namely the Cowley Formation.
