Kansas Survey Develops Web Site About Hutchinson Natural Gas

Lawrence--A new web site that provides information about geology and other issues related to natural gas explosions in Hutchinson was unveiled at a public meeting in Hutchinson on Thursday evening by the Kansas Geological Survey, based at the University of Kansas.

The site can be reached through the Survey's home page (www.kgs.ku.edu).

The web site features photographs, drawings, and links to other sources of information about natural gas, salt mining, and regulation. Natural gas explosions occurred in the city on January 17 and 18.

The site features an interactive map of the Hutchinson area that allows viewers to see the location of wells that were drilled to vent natural gas and areas where seismic reflection data was collected by the Survey as part of an effort to understand the area's subsurface geology.
