PfEFFER-java Download Java Source to your PC (Petrofacies Evaluation of Formations for Engineering Reservoirs)

This web page are instructions to download the PfEFFER Directory with all the files necessary in compiling and running the PfEFFER Application. You will first need to download a free Java Development Kit (JDK) from ORACLE Java, http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html

Click on the "JDK" Download Button and follow directions. You will need to know what kind of computer operating system you are working on.

You will also need a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) on your PC to run the web app on your pc. Click on the "JRE" Download Button and follow directions. The same is true for the JRE, you will need to know what kind of computer operating system you are working on.

The PfEFFER Application software is bundled by 2 methods as a ZIP file and as a JAR File. Both will create the PfEFFER_JAVA directory with all the source files to build the PfEFFER-java Application. The Build.bat and Run.bat are designed for the Windows Environment, but it shows the procedure & source files for compiling and running the Java Application. If you use the script you will need to replace the calls "C:\jdk1.7.0_25\bin\" in the scripts to the JDK directory that you downloaded to your PC.

• Download PfEFFER_JAVA.zip to your PC PfEFFER_JAVA.zip, i.e. right mouse click the URL Link to the left and select "save as ..." and save it anywhere you like on your PC.

  Unzip the file. The program files are located under a directory called 'PfEFFER_JAVA' so it is safe to unzip where ever you like.

• Download PfEFFER_JAVA.jar to your PC PfEFFER_JAVA.jar, i.e. right mouse click the URL Link to the left and select "save as ..." and save it anywhere you like on your PC.

  Extract the JAR file by the following command
  
  C:\jdk1.7.0_25\bin\jar xf PfEFFER_JAVA.jar

  The program files are located under a directory called 'PfEFFER_JAVA' so it is safe to extract the jar where ever you like.

/data - directory contains the lookup XML (Extensible Markup Language) files necessary for running the Application.
/lib - directory holds the JAR File.
/src - directory PfEFFER Source Files
/images - directory PfEFFER images

   Build.bat - Windows Batch file for compiling the PfEFFER Application.
   Run.bat - Windows Batch file for running the PfEFFER Application
   Manifest_Pfeffer.txt - A required file needed in the JAR file to meet ORACLE-Java security requirements.
   PfEFFER.txt - Contents of the PfEFFER JAR File.
   Help-GEMINI_Tools-PfEFFER.pdf - PfEFFER Help PDF (Portable Document Format) file.

REMEMBER to replace the "C:\jdk1.7.0_25\bin\" with the JDK directory path you downloaded to your PC in the Build.bat and Run.bat files.

Build.bat

This file will compile the PfEFFER Java Source code. In a Command Prompt window enter: Build > temp.txt. This will run the Build script and send all the steps to the temp.txt file. If any errors show you will be able to see it and open the temp.txt to find the error.

• Create Directory Structure: The script first creates the new source directory structure in the main directory.
• Copy "src" directory to the new source directory structure: The script copies the source files from the "src" directory to the new source directory structure. It doesn't move the files it makes a copy of the source directory only for the purpose of compiling the code.
• Compile Source: The script compiles the PfEFFER, with the following call,
  
  C:\jdk1.7.0_25\bin\javac -Xlint:deprecation PfEFFER.java

• Remove the Java Source Files: The script deletes all the java source files from created directory structure. The Java source is no longer necessary only the class files need to remain.
• Remove the JAR Contents text file: The PfEFFER.txt, which shows the contents of the PfEFFER JAR file is deleted.

• Build the JAR File: The PfEFFER Class Files are loaded into the PfEFFER_JAVA.jar File with the following call,
  
  C:\jdk1.7.0_25\bin\jar cvfm PfEFFER.jar Manifest_Pfeffer.txt *.class cmn gui math gemini kgs las las3 dst lith horizon mask parse iqstrat plot brine rock pfeffer pf zeke ss util xml images data

• Create a JAR Content Text File: The following call creates the PfEFFER.txt file with the contents of the PfEFFER.jar file,
  
  C:\jdk1.7.0_25\bin\jar tvf PfEFFER.jar > PfEFFER.txt

• Move JAR File to "lib" Directory: The JAR file is moved to the "lib" directory,
  
  MOVE PfEFFER.jar lib

• Remove Class Files: The contents of the created directory structures are deleted.
• Remove Directory Structure: The created directory structures are removed.

Only the contents of the PfEFFER JAR file, "PfEFFER.txt" is left.

Run.bat

This file will run the PfEFFER Application on your PC. Just double click on the 'Run.bat' script.
