Don W. Green, Dean E. Ackers Distinguished Professor of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering and Co-Director of the Tertiary Oil Recovery Project (TORP) at the University of Kansas (KU) received the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) IOR Pioneer award at the Fifteenth SPE/DOE Symposium on Improved Oil Recovery held in April of 2006.
The SPE IOR Pioneer Award was inaugurated in 1984. The award recognizes and expresses special appreciation to individuals who have pioneered and made significant important improvements in, and advancements to, improved recovery technology and processes. Over the past twenty-two years, 48 individuals have been recognized as IOR Pioneers.
Paul Willhite, Ross E. Forney Distinguished Professor of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering and Co-Director of the Tertiary Oil Recovery Project and the KU Energy Research Center has become the fourth KU professor elected to the prestigious National Academy of Engineering, the highest professional distinction accorded to an engineer. KU is the only university in the state with faculty members in the academy.
Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to engineering research, practice or education, and membership stands as a benchmark of quality for academic institutions. The academy has more than 2,000 peer-elected members who are among the world's most accomplished engineers. They provide the leadership and expertise for numerous projects focused on the relationships between engineering, technology and the quality of life.
TORP sponsored a going away luncheon in honor of Rich Pancake (right). Rich worked for TORP as a field liaison en-gineer since 1998 and recently accepted a position with Murfin Drilling Co. in Wichita. Also pictured are Lisa Love, Stephen Johnson and Jenn-Tai Liang.
