Working Job Title: Technical Research Assistant (2950521)
Regular Hourly or Work Study
Hourly Rate: $9.50-$11.00, depending on qualifications and experience
Approx. Start Date: October 15, 2018
KGS Section: Exploration Services
Hours Per Week: 20 during academic year, up to 40 during summer

Duties

CAD Draftsman

25%: Responsible to create/revise technical drawings, created with SolidWorks, of existing custom designed equipment and additionally the creation of drawings based upon supplied specifications and calculations.

10%: Provide computer-generated files that can be used by computer-controlled machining equipment.

5%: Maintain and archive technical drawings of seismic acquisition system under development.

5%: Assist in the design, construction, wiring, outfitting and testing of all-conditions seismic acquisition vehicle.

5%: Perform additional related duties as requested or required.

GIS

50%: Develop and maintain ArcGIS based water level route and well location maps for ongoing waterlevel program.

Required Qualifications

  1. KU student, meeting enrollment requirements during academic year
  2. Good computer literacy and well-versed with Windows and Microsoft Office as evidenced by application material.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of a "solid modeling" computer package "SolidWorks" or related software package.

Position Requirements

  1. Position requires availability to work in 3-hour work blocks (business hours are between 8-5, M-F) during the academic year.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Architecture, mechanical or civil engineering background.
  2. Familiarity with ArcView, ArcGIS or ArcPad.
  3. Experience with reading and rendering electrical schematics.
  4. Experience with soldering and related wiring activities.
  5. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to work in both 'shop' and field environments.
  6. Coursework in ME-228—Computer Graphics , CE-192—Civil Engineering Graphics or similar
