Creation of Topographic Relief-Summary

• Construction (building) of relief by carbonates mostly during rises
• Reef, mound, and grainstone facies build relief
• Fast rise over mid-shelf/ramp position limits amount of building when rates of carbonate production are not optimal
• Facies building relief may show lateral migration (e.g. backstepping) and be overlain by deeper water deposits

• Accommodation remains underfilled
• Erosional relief created after falls
• Subaerial exposure and fluvial incision create variable topography
• Delta-like siliciclastics funneled in during lowstands may modify relief
