Panther Creek Coal Mine run by Continental Coal Inc.. Located in Sec9, T39N, R29w, Bates Co., MO (Butler 1:100,000 quad). Coals mined at Panther Creek are the Mineral Coal (24-50” thick) and the Tebo Coal (12-18” thick). The Tebo is located below the Mineral Coal. Production in 2000 was about 157,000 tons and in 2001 production was 190,000 tons.

This image is from the June field trip and is located to the southwest of the pit shown in the previous pictures. At this location the Mineral Coal is overlain by soil and weathered material. The Tebo Coal is in the bottom of the pit.

The Mineral Coal pinches out to both the north and to the south. It appears that the pinchouts are onto sandstone thicks.
