Regional Setting

The Study area is located under the giant Hugoton Gas field in the Hugoton Embayment. The Hugoton embayment is a northern extension of the Anadarko Basin. The western edge of the Hugoton Embayment is bounded by the Los Animas Arch and to the Northeast by the Central Kansas Uplift. The upper Mississsippian consists of the Warsaw, Salem, St. Louis, St. Genevieve and the Chester. The St Louis is overlain by quartz-rich St. Genevieve limestones.
