Carr Named New Co-Director of Energy Research Center

LAWRENCE--Timothy R. Carr, chief of the petroleum research section at the Kansas Geological Survey, has been appointed as a co-director of the University of Kansas Energy Research Center.

The appointment, effective on October 15, was announced by Robert Bearse, KU associate vice-chancellor for research, graduate studies, and public service.

Carr will continue in his current capacity at the Survey, and will co-direct the Energy Research Center with Don Green, KU professor of petroleum and chemical engineering. The Energy Research Center's executive director is W. Lynn Watney.

The Energy Research Center was established on KU's west campus in 1991 to facilitate interdisciplinary energy research at KU and to develop programs related to state, regional, and national energy needs. The ERC has been particularly active in technology transfer programs to the petroleum industry in the state. Grants and contracts submitted through the ERC have produced more than $10 million in the past three years.

Carr joined the Kansas Geological Survey in 1992. Prior to that he worked as a research and exploration geologist for ARCO Oil and Gas Company. Carr holds bachelor's and a Ph.D. in geology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a master's from Texas Tech University. Carr has written a number of scientific publications in the areas of sedimentary and petroleum geology.
