Nick Powell of Colt Energy has agreed to serve as Vice Chairman. Powell has actively served on the PAG since its inception in 1995.

Powell graduated from Tulane University with a B.S. degree in Economics in 1975. He went on to work for Yellow Freight System, Inc. in 1976. His duties were purchaser of fuel and development of a subsidiary named Overland Energy, Inc. (OEI). OEI participated in other oil company exploratory prospects in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana. Their drilling budget peeked at fifteen million dollars per year. After the government deregulated the trucking industry in 1980, Yellow Freight phased out their expenditures in the oil and gas business and concentrated more on their core business as a common carrier.

Powell started his own company, Colt Energy, Inc. in 1981. He currently serves as president and director of the Kansas-based oil and gas exploration and production company. Main offices are located in Iola and Fairway, Kansas.

In addition to the Petroleum Technology Transfer Council – North Midcontinent PAG, Powell has been an active member of many other oil and gas societies. He serves on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Kansas Independent Oil & Gas Association (KIOGA), the Board of Directors of the Eastern Kansas Oil and Gas Association (EKOGA), the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA), and the Advisory Board of the Tertiary Oil Recovery Project at the University of Kansas (TORP). He was a past president and chairman of the Environmental Committee of EKOGA and served nine years on the Oil and Gas Advisory Committee of the Kansas Corporation Commission representing EKOGA.
