TORP's Secretary - Ruth Sleeper Retires
Effective October 31, 2000 TORP's
long-time secretary/ bookeeper Ruth Sleeper retired after 22
years of service at KU working in the front office the entire
time. She has been the guiding hand behind 11 Oil Recovery Conferences
in Wichita, Spring and Fall meetings of the TORP Advisory Board,
and countless other meetings and fun gatherings for TORP and
CPE on the fourth floor of Learned Hall.
Ruth says she not only got a "cheap degree" in engineering
over the years, but has had the privilege of meeting people from
the oil industry, government, and academia (having two Distinguished
Professors to work for), as well as getting to know students
from all over the world. Ruth considered it an enriching experience
- a real delight for someone attuned to "people", their
life experiences, their dreams and aspirations - a rare opportunity
to learn about different cultures and countries and family life.
She would welcome hearing from any of you who have time to
get on the Internet and say "Hi". Her e-mail address
is 22skiddo@cs.com She
will miss her "extended family". In the meantime, she
hopes to get to know her neighbors and rescue her yard from the
ravages of last summer.
New Research Engineer for TORP
Jyun-Syung Tsau has joined the
staff of the Tertiary Oil Recovery Project at KU as a research
engineer.
Prior to coming to TORP, Tsau had been a senior research associate
with the Petroleum Recovery Research Center at the New Mexico
Institute of Mining and Technology in Socorro. During his ten
years at PRRC, Tsau was involved in research concerning using
foam for mobility control in CO2 flooding applications. This
involved lab experiments of high-pressure core flooding tests
and simulation of foam application for CO2 flooding processes.
With TORP, he is already integrating into the existing CO2
project and will be involved in research and reservoir simulation
of oil recovery processes.
He received his Masters and Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering from
the University of Texas.
Maxine Younes
New TORP Secretary
A familiar face in Learned Hall
is the new secretary for the Tertiary Oil Recovery Project Maxine
Younes. For the past three years she has been secretary to the
chairperson of the Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Department.
She began her duties with TORP on December 11, replacing the
retired Ruth Sleeper. Maxine has worked at KU for twenty years
in various departments.
Although not a stranger for those of us affiliated with the
University, this will be Maxine's first exposure to many of the
people in the petroleum industry. We are sure you will find her
to be a very friendly and helpful associate. |
