SPE and PTTC to Cosponsor Workshop March 14th on Electric Power Cost Reduction

The Wichita SPE Chapter in conjunction with the North Midcontinent Resource Center - PTTC is cosponsoring a workshop titled "Practical Electric Power Cost Reduction in Old Oil and Gas Fields" on March 14, 2001 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM in the lower courtyard of the Bank of America Building at 100 North Broadway in Wichita, Kansas. The workshop fee is $25.00,which covers a
noon buffet meal at the Petroleum Club and a copy of the workshop manual.
Pre-registration is preferred, but walk-ins will be accepted. The workshop is open to non-SPE members. A registration form is included in this newsletter for your convenience. This will be the only advertisement for this event.

Electric power cost is not a fixed cost but a variable cost. It is possible for the average oil field operating company to reduce its electric power cost without turning off production.
The training is divided into four major areas:

  1. Reducing electrical cost by under-standing your electric power bills and rates
  2. Reducing electrical cost by changing office procedures and field operating procedures
  3. Reducing electrical cost by working the field process and mechanical equipment
  4. Reducing electrical cost by working on the electrical equipment

No prior knowledge or background is required. Training in the workshop is suitable for; general supervision & management, financial analysts, engineers, operators, electricians, etc.

The objective of the workshop is for attendees to leave the room with the practical "mental tools" to begin power cost reduction immediately. This is not a class in electrical engineering. It is not a class in energy efficiency. It is practical, hands-on training in cutting power costs.

This workshop is field-tested. The material has been successfully applied by oil field operators in: Illinois, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and California.

The workshop will be conducted by Mike Paik, a registered electrical engineer with over twenty-five years of hands-on engineering experience in private industry. Seventeen of these years were spent in the Production departments of ARCO & Union Pacific Resources. He has worked oil fields in Texas, California, Iran and Indonesia

Mr. Paik has designed, helped build and maintained many different types of oil field plants and systems. These include: oil field electric power systems, central water treatment plants, steam EOR plants, water injection plants, gas compression stations and gas treatment plants.

Mr. Paik is currently a field engineer with Southern California Edison, a major California electric utility. Prior to that he was an employed consultant and principle engineer (electrical) with the OHM Corporation, an electrical engineering design & consulting firm. He is a graduate of USC with a BS in Electrical Engineering
