Technology Transfer for Kansas Independents

Background

In Kansas, 89% of the 2,534 currently active oil and gas companies have fewer than 20 employees. As a result these companies need assistance to adopt the latest technologies and to maintain their technical expertise.

Current Activities

The KU Energy Research Center (ERC), the Tertiary Oil Recovery Project (TORP) and the Kansas Geological Survey (KGS) operate with DOE and state funding the North Midcontinent Petroleum Technology Transfer Center (PTTC). The PTTC is focused on traditional and online technology transfer activities. The PTTC organizes and presents workshops and technical presentations at various locations in Kansas (e.g., Wichita, Hays, Liberal and Chanute). The PTTC also maintains a small office and web site.

Future Activities

The PTTC is working closely with the KGS to maintain and enhance one of the best web sites in the US focused on the Petroleum industry. Work is underway on online and distance leaming courses that use the Internet to reach the Kansas operators on their desktop.
