Prediction Models in Spatial Data Analysis

Conveners:

  • Andrea G. Fabbri, International Institute for Aerospace Survey and Earth Sciences, The Netherlands

Spatial prediction model plays a crucial part in mineral and energy exploration programs and in the planning of future land-use. Exploration for mineral and energy resources is carried out by a step by step approach. At each step, a selection of the target area for the next exploration strategy is made based on all the data harnessed from the previous steps. For the planning of future land use for economic activities, a critical element is the identification of the vulnerable areas for natural hazard and environmental impacts from the activities. For both the selection of the target areas and the identification of vulnerable areas, spatial prediction models are essential components. However the models should also include validation techniques to estimate the uncertainties associated with the predictions. In this session, we will discuss all aspects of spatial prediction models including the requirements of the models, mathematical tools, validation techniques, and how to convert geological models to mathematical prediction models. We strongly encourage that all proposed methodologies are accompanied by real-life case-study applications. We are also welcoming any contributions showing the opposition views of spatial prediction models such as why and when they are wrong.
