Geological Spatial Database of China
by Chenyang Li*, Information Division of China Geological Survey, China, China Geological Survey (CGS) has completed 1:200000 and 1:500000 National Geological Spatial Database, and has begun to serve for public. China 1:200000 regional geological mapping started in 1955 and ended in beginning of 1990s. With the help of geological expert, CGS has spent 6 years to vector more 1200 sheets of geological map on paper/film, and put all data into spatial database through SDE. The database is sole middle scale basic geological map that covers the whole of China, and become the basic of china new geological survey. 1:500000 National Geological Spatial Database is compiled from 1:200000 and 1:50000 geological map, mainly use for macroscopical geological study and nature resource management. It has 222 sheet of digital geological map. The main properties of geological spatial database of China include: Abundant content, cover the land area of 960 million, vast storage of data. Use national standards, CGS use uniform standard on content, format and platform, include metadata standard. ESRI's Arc/Info coverage for database and MapGIS project file for cartography. Reliable quality, based on series of testing, CGS has quality assurance and monitor system of database production, and that apply in the whole process of data production. More technical, CGS use recent GIS and database technology. CGS is trying to develop WEBGIS to serve more database to public. Meanwhile CGS has accumulate the 1:250000 and 1:50000 national geological spatial database in New-round Geological Survey Program. China Geological Survey has formed a series of Geological Spatial Database, 1:5000000, 1:2500000, 1:1000000, 1:500000, 1:200000 geological spatial database and digital map. |
