GEMINI Tools
Download JAVA Source Code

The following web applications were developed over the last 16 years at the Kansas Geological Survey (KGS). The web applications plot oil & gas data and allows the geologist to perform analysis with that data, i.e. GEMINI Project & Tools on the KGS Web Site. This GEMINI Tools download web site was created to provide a means for someone in the future at the Kansas Geological Survey to perform maintenance on these web apps and to release the changes back to the KGS Server. Each Web Application has a download process that will allow the user to download the Java source code with all the scripts to build and run the Java program as an application on the user's PC. The user will first need to download a free Java Development Kit (JDK) from ORACLE Java, http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html. Each Web Application also has an upload process, which allows the user to move the Java Web Application Jar file up to the KGS server. This process requires the developer to retrieve the KGS Certificate passwords from KGS Computer Services.

GEMINI (Geo-Engineering Modeling through INternet Informatics) Project was developed to allow the geologist to seamlessly integrate databases and geological analytical tools across the web. Analytical tools were designed for the independent oil and gas operators, consultants, and widely separated team members within and outside companies.

The GEMINI Tools web applications were designed to save the data to the PC using the Log ASCII Standard (LAS) version 3.0 developed by the Canadian Well Logging Society . This version provides a means to collect all the geological data in one file. Although the LAS 3.0 Format has default data types, the user can add their own data types to the file provided they use the primary section types, i.e., Parameter, Definition and Data whenever possible, which are briefly paraphrased below, 1

Every GEMINI Tools Web app has a "data" directory containing XML Lookup Files containing thesaurus's, which help to parse geologist core & cuttings report descriptions into separate data structures. ASCII text plot masks for drawing lithology, porosity types, fossils and sedimentary structures. There is also standard lookups for the stratigraphic units of Kansas and Red-Green-Blue color codes for standard color names as well as Munsell Color Charts in order to plot the color in a profile plot.

The GEMINI Tools Web Applications were developed with the capability of accessing the Kansas Geological Survey (KGS) ORACLE Database and Server for well oil & gas data as well as brine sample data and outcrop & stream cut measured sections. The Kansas Geological Survey has over 450,000 wells listed in their ORACLE Database with more than 18,000 Log ASCII Standard (LAS) version 2.0 files in the Kansas Geological Survey Collection and there are 162,712 wells with top picks.

The web applications were developed for user's to import Log ASCII Standard (LAS) version 2.0 & 3.0 files as well as Comma Separated Values (CSV) files for Core data, Tops data, Brine data, and ASCII delimited geologist core & cuttings reports. These web applications also have links to the Kansas Geological Survey well database tables and file server. This link took on the form of ORACLE PL/SQL stored procedures that generated Extensible Markup Language (XML) data streams for the data. The Database-PLSQL Icon button link to the left will provide download process for downloading the ORALCE PL/SQL stored procedures to the developers PC for purpose of maintenance.
