Solution Enlarged Natural Fractures - Mississippian Reservoir, Kansas

Reservoir Implications

Solution enlarged fractures can be open, providing a fluid conduit, or filled, providing a flow barrier.

Water production versus distance to
nearest NW- and NE-trending lineaments
Oil production versus distance to
nearest NW- and NE-trending lineaments

Increased water production in proximity to the NW-trending lineaments suggests that these lineaments represent open fractures, which serve as conduits to the underlying aquifer.

Decreased oil production in proximity to the NE-trending lineaments suggests that these lineaments represent barriers to fluid flow. One possible cause of the inhibited production is shale-filled fractures, which have been identified in a nearby horizontal well.
