- Abstract:
- The Master List of Oil and Gas Wells for Kansas is a database of well-header information for oil and gas wells in Kansas. The data is based on well information submitted to the Kansas Corporation Commission on wells planned, drilled, worked over, or plugged. Wells information is also collected from wireline logs, core or cuttings submitted for storage, or historical compilations. The database contains mostly location, owner, and depth info; completion practice or engineering info is not generally included. Scans of well records are attacted to the header records in many cases. Some data from other states is included for research purposes.
- Purpose:
- The Kansas Geological Survey works with the Kansas Corporation Commission and the Kansas Department of Revenue to create an accurate listing of the oil and gas wells in Kansas. While the other agencies have regulatory duties facilited bu haveing an accurate accounting of the oil and gas wells, the Survey maintains the listing for research purposes and for use by citizens and companies interested in the oil and gas resources of the state.

- The only attribute tested is the Public Land Survey System legal description. The KGS test to make sure the logal description falls within the appropriate county. There is no other review or quality control measured conducted on the accuracy of the information submitted.

- The only consistancy checks performed are based on the fact the same data can be submitted on completion forms, wireline logs, core, or cuttings submitted to our archive. In addition, production data also contains limited well info to cross-correlate.

- Records for all wells should be submitted to the state, but it is not believed that any agency or group has a complete and accurate representation of all oil and gas wells drilled in Kansas. Only certain values on the completion forms are entered; scans are placed online so that additional data fields are easily available.
