High Plains Aquifer Evaluation Project (HPAE) |
The High Plains Aquifer Evaluation Project was carried out by the Geohydrology Section of the Kansas Geological Survey (KGS) under a series of contracts with the Kansas Water Office (KWO), with the participation and review of a Coordinating Council made up of representatives of state and local water agencies.
Under the terms of the contract, KGS provided scientific and technical support and guidance for the Kansas Water Office and other organizations to assist them in setting goals, assessing resources and needs, and evaluating the progress and effects of programs affecting groundwater. The primary focus of the KGS activities was the quantity and quality of groundwater in the High Plains Aquifer.
An Atlas of the High Plains Aquifer is a major interim product of the ongoing project, and can be viewed by clicking the linked title to the left.
The Atlas was also issued in a print version as Educational Series 14 (order from Kansas Geological Survey), and as Open-file Report 2000-29A.
Other products of the KGS contract were reports delivered toi the KWO as:
Open-file Report 2000-29B, Water Level Decline in the Ogallala Aquifer
Open-file Report 2000-29C, Kansas Water Needs: Issues related to supply, demand, and competition
