This page provides links to various datasets. Most are intended to be suitable for upload into Web-LOICZView. However, ArcView GIS files may also be provided here if appropriate. In addition, the "Test" category below contains descriptions of the development and applications of some of the data sets.
Data format
is indicated by the file extension:
.csv is a comma-separated text file;
.xls is a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet file;
.shp is an ArcView shape file (vector coverage) [Multiple files zipped
together]
All of the .csv and .xls files will be in the Typology database 30' grid cell format, with cell ID and lat-long included.
Four categories of data sets are identified; descriptions (and where appropriate,
links to metadata) are provided on the category index pages.
Biotic Data: (Review contents link-- this page) (Go to Archive index page link)
These are either organism/taxon
distribution files (presence-absence or occurrence frequency), which are suitable
for clustering as well as overlay, OR
environmental classification files (e.g., ecosystem type) which are not suitable
for clustering (not 'continuous variables') but which can be used for overlay
and correspondence analyses.
Candidate Data: (Review contents link-- this page) (Go to Archive index page link)
These are new or modified single-variable datasets that are under consideration for inclusion in the database, either as new or replacement variables.
Custom data sets: (Review contents link-- this page) (Go to Archive index page link)
These are uploadable data sets which have been developed for specialized purposes, required significant editorial work (selection of locations or cell types, addition or recalculation of variables, etc.), and which may be useful to others.
Archived Data: (Review contents link-- this page) (Go to Archive index page link)
These are data sets that have been used in the LOICZ typology data base, but have been removed as the database has evolved. They are retained so that individuals who have used them before can retrieve the same datasets for continuation or comparison of earlier work.
Test Data: (Review contents link-- this page) (Go to Archive index page link)
This section contains draft data sets or preliminary results of data tests or experiments in progress that are producing results useful to other typology researchers, but that are not yet ready for final presentation as a project product.
