Position: Application Developer (00065425)

KU Title: Information Specialist

Starting Date: Tentative start date is February 10, 2014.

Application Deadline: Priority will be given to applications received by January 15, 2014.

Salary, Employment Status, and Fringe Benefits: Position is contingent on funding. Salary $60,000-$65,000. Full-time, regular unclassified professional staff position, FLSA non-exempt, subject to annual review. Benefits include university staff privileges; 22 days vacation leave, 12 days sick leave, and 9 holidays annually; group medical, life insurance, and retirement program options.


Position Overview

Work as part of a team to develop and enhance the Kansas On-Line Automated Reporting (KOLAR) web site: https://kolar.kgs.ku.edu. KOLAR allows oil/gas operators and water well drillers to submit regulatory information to various state agencies. This position provides the opportunity to work on a variety of projects in a continuous learning environment. The successful candidate will be challenged to apply advanced web and database technologies to solve complex issues related to the KOLAR web site.

Responsibilities

50% Web site development

  1. Design and build web pages (HTML5, CSS3, jQuery, JavaScript, ColdFusion, HTML, CSS)
  2. Develop database schema and stored procedures (Oracle 11 Enterprise Edition, SQL, PL/SQL)
  3. Translate business processes into requirements
  4. Track issues (JIRA)

25% Web site support

  1. Maintain and modernize web pages
  2. Diagnose problems and implement a resolution
  3. Provide technical support for partner agency users
  4. Report web site status and statistics

5% Assist in the installation and maintenance of web servers.

  1. Apache, ColdFusion Enterprise, Oracle, JIRA, Subversion

10% Communications with partner agencies.

10% Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and two years current professional work experience in web application development.
  2. Two years current professional work experience in web site design and web application development using PHP, JSP, ColdFusion, ASP, or similar technologies.
  3. Two years current professional work experience working with SQL in database environments such as Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, or MySQL.
  4. Two years current professional work experience with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
  5. Strong communication skills. Written skills will be evaluated by the quality of the application materials and/or a list of published materials. Oral communication skills will be assessed during the interview and by reference checks.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience with HTML5 and CSS3.
  2. Experience with JavaScript libraries such as jQuery, Dojo Toolkit, etc.
  3. Experience with an object oriented programming language such as Java or C++.
  4. Experience with Oracle PL/SQL.
  5. Experience with shell scripting, Perl, Python, or similar environments.
  6. Knowledge of the oil and gas industry in the State of Kansas.
  7. Knowledge of water rights and water well drilling in the State of Kansas.
