Salary, Employment Status, and Fringe Benefits: Salary range is $28,000 - $30,000 for a .75 FTE appointment, depending on qualifications and experience. Part-time position, contingent on funding, subject to annual review. Benefits include university staff privileges; 22 days of vacation leave, 12 days of sick leave, and 9 holidays annually; group medical, dental, life insurance, and retirement program options.
Position Overview: Research support work involves collection and analysis of geospatial data to (1) assess the effectiveness of streambank stabilization projects in eastern Kansas, including assessing the spatial patterns of erosion and deposition, and to (2) assist in the production of geologic maps in south-central Kansas, including identifying surface faults and lineaments from aerial imagery, generating and maintaining geospatial databases, and cartographic editing.
50% Actively participate in the monitoring of streambank erosion and evaluating the effectiveness of streambank stabilization projects in eastern Kansas. Research involves (1) data collection in the field with KGS Unmanned Aerial Systems and RTK GPS total station and (2) data analysis, including creation of georeferenced orthomosaic imagery and 3D models. Some publication and presentation of findings to peer community will be necessary. Interaction with other state agencies and local landowners may be necessary.
40% Assist with field-based surficial geologic mapping of Harper, Sumner and Cowley counties by the Stratigraphic Research section as needed. Actively participate in the identification of surface faults and lineaments in south-central Kansas using geospatial data, including LiDAR and other aerial imagery, and GIS software in support of surficial geologic mapping and Energy section research associated with induced seismicity as needed.
10% Assist Cartographic Services with the editing/populating geology databases and production of surficial geologic maps as needed.
