Student Part Time Employment, Kansas Geological Survey

Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for coding and entering data into an Excel spreadsheet to create databases for use in a project to better understand the High Plains aquifer. The successful candidate will be under close supervision initially to evaluate proof-reading skills and speed of entry, and will eventually be expected to perform this task independently with periodic checks to insure quality control by the project scientists.

Applicants will be required to demonstrate their data-entry and proof-reading skills as part of the interview process.

Required Qualifications

1. KU student, enrolled in minimum of 6 hours.
2. Good word processing skills, as demonstrated by application material.
3. Good proof-reading skills, as demonstrated by application material.
4. Good attention to detail, as demonstrated by application material.
5. Experience in developing and working with Excel spreadsheets.
6. Able to work 15-20 hours per week during the school year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Undergraduate or graduate earth science, environmental science, or biology major.
2. Successful completion of an Introduction to Geology and a Geology Laboratory course.
3. Experience with Access or other relational database software.
4. Able to work 20 hours per week during the school year and 40 hours per week during the summer.
