Energy Council to Meet on October 24

TOPEKA--The first meeting of the State Energy Resources Coordination Council will be held on October 24 at the headquarters of the Kansas Corporation Commission in Topeka.

The meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the first floor hearing room at KCC headquarters, 1500 SW Arrowhead Road.

The 13-member council was created in April 2002 by Governor Bill Graves. Lee Allison, director of the Kansas Geological Survey, is chair of the council; John Wine, chair of the KCC, is the council's vice-chair.

The council is charged with compiling information about the availability, production, and use of energy in Kansas; formulating an initial state energy plan and; advising the Governor and Legislature of energy trends in production, consumption, and tax or revenue implications. An initial report from the council is scheduled to be presented to the Governor and Legislature on January 13, 2003.

The council's web site (http://www.kansasenergy.org/sercc.htm) includes additional information about the council. The October 24 meeting will focus on discussion of council goals and future activities. The meeting is open to the public.
