97 TORP Conference a Success
On March 19, Kansas University's Tertiary Oil Recovery Project held
its twelfth Improved Oil Recovery conference in Wichita, Kansas. The event
brought new excitement to the Oil Industry. One hundred twenty-five registered
guests attended the two-day conference. This year's meeting included topics
on CO2 flooding, conventional waterflooding and microbial enhanced production
in addition to other production oriented subjects such as, air flotation
cleaning of injection water, log analysis, casing leak repairs and foam
cement squeezing. Mr. Dale Davis of Halliburton Corporation, addressed
the luncheon crowd with an informative and interesting presentation on
future oil and natural gas market indicators.
Software Training for PTTC Regions
The Rocky Mountain Region PTTC sponsored the Software Demo Training
Workshop for representatives for each of the national Regional Lead Organizations
in Golden, Colorado, February 13 - 15, 1997. Lanny Schoeling and Dwayne
McCune, from the North Midcontinent RLO, attended the workshop. The purpose
of the event was to provide software companies the opportunity to teach
PTTC personnel how to demonstrate their products to potential industry
users. The following is a brief summary of each of the demonstrated products:
PfEFFER (Kansas Geological Survey) A spreadsheet-based, well log analysis
utilizing LAS files. The software utilized the Archie computation model
and creates plots and analyses, RHOMAA-UMAA cross-plots, and moveable oil
plots.
LESA (Resource Information Services, Ltd.) The acronym for Log Evaluation
Systems Analysis, LESA, utilizing LAS files, provides a detailed well log
analysis with a number of associated cross plots, depth plots and histograms
available.
RTS-View & RIS-Info (Resource Information Services, Ltd.) Companion
programs to LESA, these programs allow for customized viewing of logs and
information derived from log analysis.
- Rockware Utilities (Rockware, Inc.) A suite of geologic, hydrologic,
land gridding and petroleum programs. Primary interest in the workshop
involved Stratos (contour mapping, cross-sections and striplogs); PROSECT
(deviated hole management) and LogPlot (graphic log description) programs.
- 2d/3dPAK (Seismic Micro-Technology, Inc.) 3D Seismic data interpretation
software.
- Geographix Exploration System (Geographix, Inc.) A suite of exploration
oriented software including lease mapping, seismic data management, cross
sections, well data management and cartography.
PRIZM (GeoGraphix, Inc.) A log analysis software with the capability of
interpreting multiple wells in a project by analyzing key wells.
Seis Vision (GeoGraphix, Inc.) 3D Seismic interpretation.
- NDS/Log (Neuralog, Inc.) A digitizing system for well logs.
NDS/Map (Neuralog, Inc.) A digitizing system for maps.
- BOAST III (Department of Energy) A black oil reservoir simulator.
CO2 Prophet (Department of Energy) CO2 or waterflood simulator.
- FRACPRO (Resources Engineering Systems, Inc.) Hydraulic fracturing
design and simulation software. Fracpro also includes a reservoir simulator.
- FracCADE (Schlumberger-Dowell/GeoQuest) Hydraulic design and simulation
software.
The North Midcontinent Resource Center has these programs available to
demonstrate to interested parties at either the PTTC office on the KU campus,
or at the satellite computer in the KGS library in Wichita. If interested
in reviewing any of these software packages, please call the North Midcontinent
Resource Center at (913) 864-7398.
