Purpose
|
The purpose of the proposed project is to create a regional petroleum
atlas that provides to the operator information and interpretation of
typical reservoirs in defined plays. The atlas will:
- Compile strategic information to properly describe the physical
and chemical characteristics of a field.
- Interpret controls on hydrocarbon accumulation and develop
improved predictive models of the reservoirs to aid in further
development.
- Describe properties and historical data on fluid production for use
in geologic and engineering models.
- Utilize databases to assess success of current and past recovery
operations and potential for additional recovery to:
- evaluate importance of factors affecting production such as
operating approach, heterogeneities, reservoir energy, oil/water
properties, and economics, and
- evaluate operating strategy such as drilling/completion,
stimulation, perforating, production methods (handling gas and
water, co-mingling, and design and operation of secondary recovery
efforts.
Strengthen communication with active operators to gather current
data and to establish immediate technology transfer.
Compilation of information describing the controls on production of
northern Mid-continent reservoirs, assembled to characterize major
plays, will provide the independent petroleum operators of the
region with the means to determine the best engineering and
geological practices for additional petroleum recovery. Use of the
most advanced techniques for reservoir description and integration
of geological and engineering information will provide users with
latest ideas and an advanced departure point for additional recovery
efforts.
