Some Study and Development of Geoscience Data Model in the Ministry of Land and Resources of Chinaby Keyan Xiao, Chinese Academy of Geology, Beijing, China In the past 20 years, various geoscience databases have been built in China, including databases of geochemistry, gravity and aeromagnetic, mineral resources, mineral deposits and occurrences, stratigraphic names, ground water, geological hazards and so on. These databases are built in different time, by different organisations and using different standards. At this time, refer to data model, it usually means data model for a specific database. In 1995, a pilot study for building geological map database (at scales 1:200,000 ) was initiated, a standard of the database structure had been developed later. With more and more applications of GIS, integrating multidisciplinary geoscience data is placed on the agenda, and furthermore, geological map databases at other scales, such as 1:50000, 1:250000, 1:2500000, and etc. are need to be built. It is essential to have a common understanding of geoscience data, especially geological map data in order to integrate the data easily. At least two projects to research data model for land and resources had been initiated in the Ministry of Land and Resources last year. Implementation of the project of geoscience data model is separated into two phrases. The first phrase is determine the framework data and basic data sets through investigating and analysing data sets existing and to be developed, The purpose is to establish a foundation to integrate geoscience data. The second phrase is to develop a detail data model for geoscience data and data dictionary for both spatial and attribute data. The investigation has been finished and the project is on the way. The paper will describe the design, implementation strategy and progress of the projects. |
