The Normativity for the National Geological Information

by Reyna Alejandro Francisco Barrientos, Instituto Nacional de Estadìstica Geografìa e Informática, Aguascalientes, Mexico

The National Institute of Statistics, Geography and Informatics (INEGI), provide the geographical information that Mexico needs in order to organizate and take advantage of its Natual Resources.

The need of information for the society and national proyects will be solved by the Geographical Data Base (GDB) which includes in digital format, the universe of geographical information produced by INEGI and others.

Several cartographic series have been performed at scales 1:1 000 000, 1:250 000 and partial at scale 1:50 000 in themes like: Hidrology, Geology, Soils and Landuse among others; that represents in some cases multitemporal visions of the National Territory.

This paper shows the description of vectorial geological data (dictionary of geological data) wich especify the entities considered in the Geological Data Base, each characterizad by atributes.

To designate the standards of geological information that INEGI has produced, criteria has been stablished for the data process and applications. This procedure will try to lead the users of the geological information of country to the integration of the National Geographical Information System (NGIS).
