Quantitative Stratigraphic Correlation of the Barakar Succession of East Bokaro Coalfield Using Cross-association Analysisby Zahid Ali Khan, Geology and Mining UP, India Qualtitative stratigraphic correlation between macro- and micro-lithofacies of the Barakar in two widely separated borehole sections from East Bokaro coalfield, Bihar, have been investigated using cross-association analysis, displaying strikingly different results. When macro-lithofacies are considered, one to one correspondence between the two sections match significantly more than expected due to change alone indicating the continuity of single homogeneous succession deposited under an identical depositional environment. Lack of significant correlation of micro-lithofacies, on the other hand, indicate the prevalence of different subenvironments at different places during each phase of sedimentation. Thus a coal seam is likely to show differences in the nature of floor and roof rocks, and likely to be restricted in its lateral continuity. |
