Reservoir Criteria and Potential Problems

General Reservoir Criteria
  • Reservoir Pressure > MMP
  • Oil Gravity > ~25° API
  • High Sorw
  • Good Waterflood Performance
Potential Problems
  • Reservoir Pressure < MMP
  • Reservoir Heterogeneity
  • Fracturing
  • Asphaltene Precipitation
  • Viscous Fingering
  • Low Waterflood Residual Oil Saturation

greater production is possible with low heterogeneity Reservoirs with low heterogeneity will produce more oil than reservoirs with moderate or high heterogeneity because of more even flooding by the injected CO2.

(after Bell et al., 1995)

The CO2 will not be able to move oil from zones of non-continuous permeability, and will break through too soon in areas of high permeabilty.
