Salary, Employment Status, and Fringe Benefits: $45,000-$55,000 annual salary, depending on qualifications. Full-time, regular position with 12-month appointment to the unclassified professional staff rank at The University of Kansas. Benefits include University staff privileges; 22 days vacation leave, 12 days sick leave, and 9 holidays annually; group medical and dental, life insurance, and retirement program options.
Conduct research related to ancient and contemporary water systems in Afghanistan and/or neighboring areas of Central Asia. Develop contacts and assist other faculty who are directly involved with training military personnel in cultural heritage protection and culturally sensitive field operations. The Post Doctoral Researcher or Visiting Scholar will be engaged in studies focusing on the archaeology, anthropology, and geography of Afghanistan. The research will be focused on cultural contexts of past and present water management systems in arid environments. It will involve use of remote sensing and other data organized within a Geographic Information System (GIS) format. The researcher will teach one upper-division course relevant to the area of study in Spring 2012. Timely presentation of results in peer-reviewed journals and at national meetings is expected.

NOTE: To be appointed at the Postdoctoral Researcher or Visiting Scholar title, it is necessary to have the Ph.D. in hand. Those who have completed all the formalities but are still waiting for the degree to be conferred will be appointed as a Research Assistant on an interim basis.
