Volumetrics - Users Guide

  1. You must log in to GEMINI User/Project Module
  2. Create a New Project, click on one of the Available Projects and Select/Edit Project
  3. Click on Volumetrics Icon

4. From the Project Well List select the desired well and click on the Volumetrics icon in the center of the screen. The interactive well plot maps shows the location of all wells in the selected project. Move mouse over the well symbols to show more information on that well.

(1) Well Table List

Set UTM Zone Location for all wells in the Project. Verifies that all the Project Oil and Gas Wells are in the same UTM Zone Location and if not to recompute the UTM for all the project wells so the wells will be in the same UTM Zone. This has to be done for every session. The data is retrieved from the KGS database tables and are precomputed for the nearest UTM Zone. Display by Latitude & Longitude or by UTM.

(2) Plot by Interval

Filters the Project Oil and Gas Well List and displays only the Wells that have the Selected Depth Interval

(3) Grid/Map Interval

This button allows the user to Grid and Map the PfEFFER Computed Data that is used in performing the Volumetric Original Oil in Place, OOIP computation.

This screen is a visual verification of the data that will be used to grid and map the PfEFFER Computed Data and to compute the Volumetric OOIP Data. This screen displays all the parameters that will be used in the next screens in the Volumetric Module. The Download Button allows the user to download the data that is presented in this screen to their PC as an ASCII Text File. Select a well and click on the Gridding button.

This allows the user to change the grid spacing to fit the application. When reservoir simulation is done, 5 grid cells between wells is recommended. The gridding is basic inverse distance, nearest neighbor search. The user controls the inverse distance weighting exponent, the number of nearest neighbors, the maximum distance to nearest data point and maximum search radius.

Click on the Grid Volumetric Data button

This screen allows the user to see the grid values that are computed. In this view, the x-axis is displayed vertically and the y-axis is shown horizontally. Clicking on the tabs of grid names along the top of the dialog will reveal each set of grids. Activating the lower tabs will show the resulting maps. The user can iterate between gridding and viewing until they are most comfortable with the result.
When a map is selected, in this case Gross Thickness, a dialog appears that allow the user to see the range of values to be mapped and permits the user to
select a color range. The user selects the appropriate
radio button and presses OK to generatethe map.
Alternative color range selected byuser with radio button.
User can enter data ranges and corresponding colors using the manual dialog. This dialog allows the user to filter the data shown on the map, if this is desired, e.g., Sw from 0 to 1 or BVW from 0.02 to 0.03.

scheme.

Volumetric calculations are done and results are accessed by clicking on volumetrics button circled on previous screen capture of dialog Zone 3 mapping dialog. New dialog appears for volumetrics showning calculation results for either oil, gas, or irreducible oil. User can enter
the formation volume factor for oil or gas as appropriate, obtained from the PVT module.
