Material Balance - Users Guide

  1. You must log in to GEMINI User/Project Module
  2. Click on Material Balance Icon from the Project List (you don't need to select a Project).
  3. Click on the Material Balance Icon in the center of the menu (again you don't need to select a well to run this program

A information screen will appear showing:

CASE 1:
If user has complete input data set i.e:

* Cumulative field oil production at intermittent intervals
* Cumulative field water production at intermittent intervals
* Average reservoir pressure history - starting with initial reservoir pressure Pi
* PVT data of reservoir fluids
* Average aquifer properties - starting inputs

Then Objectives of MB Module are to :
* Validate & describe reservoir drive mechanism
* Cross check Volumetric OOIP

General procedure

* Plot F/E vs. We/E
* Iterate on Aquifer model to obtain a straight line with unit slope
* Intercept of the line gives the original oil in place (OOIP)
* Finalize average properties of the aquifer

CASE 2:
If user has incomplete input data set ie;

* Cumulative field oil production at intermittent intervals
* Cumulative field water production at intermittent intervals
* Initial reservoir pressure - Pi
* PVT data of reservoir fluids
* Average aquifer properties - starting inputs

Then Objectives of MB Module are to :
* Assume volumetric OOIP is correct
* Reconstruct average reservoir pressure history
and compare with available DST data.

General procedure

* Iterate average reservoir pressure at each time (>0) such that calculated OOIP is close (within 10%) of volumetric OOIP
*Results in a straight line with unit slope for F/E by We/E plot.

Click the Next button to bring up the calculation screen. Input your changes and click the Next button at the bottom right of the screen. Note: Numbers in red are constants.

To see instructions for using this screen click the button "Click here for instruction"

To add a line to the table, right click and select Insert Row. Click in each input field, clear the 0 entry and type in the appropriate number. Continue to add data until you are finished. A chart will display on the bottom of the screen showing either the F/E vs Time or F/E vs We/E. Once you are finished, click the Generate Report button and enter a Output file name. An output report webpage is generated with the tables and the charts.
