The original GEMINI contract was designed around using the Kansas Geological
Survey (KGS) Database with tools and algorithms that have been created at
the KGS. The Upload Process is created to allow GEMINI User the capability
of uploading their own data to KGS to use on the GEMINI Application Web Site.
The Upload Process will require that the user email their Digital LAS Files,
DST Measurements, Core Analysis, Core Images and Formation Tops to
Gemini-Upload@kgs.ku.edu in an ASCII Text File. Core images can be supplied
in several image formats. Every effort will be made to get the data into the
KGS Database as soon as possible. The data manager will send an email on receipt
of the upload with an estimate of when the data will be available. We will
strive for next day service, but day-to-day staffing issues may introduce
delays. We realize a user is waiting for the data, so this process will be
given a high priority. If problems occur in the upload contact our data manager
at (785) 864-2198.
If the user wishes, the data that is submitted will be protected from other
users. Input data is electronically flagged as confidential for up to two
years before being placed in the public file for access when general inquiries.
GEMINI project information WILL NOT become public information. Eventual sharing
the input data provides the service of maintaining and integrating the information.
The public-domain database will continue to grow and become more complete
and useful. The user should include the following with every email that is
sent:
Every File that is submitted with the above data should have at least the
following Well Header Information included in the File or at least included
in a separate file with the data file name that it is associated with:

Formats for GEMINI User Submitted

Digital LAS File - Digital LOG ASCII
STANDARD (LAS) File - Version 2.0
The Well Profile Module requires a minimum set of units in
order to automatically set the limits of the tracks, i.e., axes for
porosity and sonic tools are plotted in reversefrom maximum value on
the left and minimum value on the right. In some cases many of the tool/curve
names are not standard and are not identified as a porosity tool or
a resistivity tool etc. To help the data manager please identify the
tool names and their units of measurement. |
DST Data - ASCII File Format
The Data that should be included in the DST file are listed below. This
list is also a suggested format. The actual time and pressure measurements
for each flow and shut-in period can follow, formatted as columns or
delimited lists. Please include names of and units of variables. |

Core Image Data - Image Description ASCII
Text File and Image Formats
KGS will accept just about any image type, i.e., TIFF, but the GEMINI
Application Web Site can only display JPEG or GIF images at this time.
In the future we will look into ways to convert the images on the fly.
To help the data manager with the images it is requested the user submit
a separate ASCII Text file for each file with the following information:
|
| |
- File Name
- File Type, i.e., TIFF, JPEG, GIF, etc.
- Title of the Image
- Date Image was created
- Authors of the Image
- Depth Range of the Core Image.
- General Comments about the image.

Formation Tops - ASCII Text File
The user can use the Well Profile Module to interactively select Formation
Tops for a specific well. If the tops are in the datbase, these can
be selected and automatically annotated in a well profile or cross section.
There may be times when specific Digital LAS Files may not be present
in the database or the user has a preferred set of tops to use in a
project . In order to accommodate this, users can submit their tops
as a list so that interaction in GEMINI will be faster. for a specific
well in an ASCII Text File with the following format, |
| |
- Formation name
- Depth Top
- Depth Base
|
